Required Training BASIC SAR SKILLS - Basic SAR Skills covers search techniques, search theories, lost person behaviour and communications. Basic also introduces members to navigation and compass work, survival, evidence handling, first aid and tracking. This course also informs new recruits about what kind of clothing they should have and what to pack in their 24 and 48 hour packs. WILDERNESS FIRST AID & CPR - This is the Standard First Aid and CPR course with wilderness component. NAVIGATION - This course covers how to use a compass and how to read a map. We focus greatly on how to pinpoint UTM and Latitude and Longitude. This may be incorporated with GPS instruction. WINTER & SUMMER SURVIVAL - This is an extensive two part course with both practical and theory training. It includes shelter building, fire starting, water gathering, how to build and light a signal fire, how to prevent hypothermia and the possible psychological problems that can arise.
EVIDENCE - This course covers everything from crime scene preservation to documentation and everything in between. Members are required to carry an evidence kit at all times and mock evidence searches will be held throughout the year in order to keep procedures up-to-date. 2 Mock searches per year
